Coney Eating Contest

July 24, 2009, Noon

Outside Texas, Cincinnati, Ohio, is the most chili-crazed city in the United States! Cincinnati prides itself on being a true chili capital, with more chili parlors per capita and per square mile than any other city in the country. According to the Greater Cincinnati Convention & Visitors Bureau, Cincinnatians consume more than 2 million pounds of chili each year, topped by 850,000 pounds of shredded cheese. No wonder more than 60 people signed up for this contest in 2008!

Contestants will compete against each other in a timed event. The object is to eat as many cheese coneys, without condiments, as possible in three minutes. Paul Hall ate nine cheese coneys in three minutes to win the contest in 2008.

Contestants wanted - register now! Contestants must pre-register online by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20. To register, please read the contest rules (below), then complete the online form here. Registration is free and open to residents of Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky who are 18 years of age or older.

After the deadline, twelve contestants will be selected at random, and all entrants will be notified of their status. Those selected to participate should check in with a photo ID on Fountain Square no later than noon on Friday, July 24.

In true "Freaky Friday" form, the coney eating contest will feature an Elvis impersonator courtesy of Hollywood Casino. Camp Washington Chili will also sell coneys on Fountain Square during the event, and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

Special thanks to title sponsor Hollywood Casino and presenting sponsor Camp Washington Chili!
